“the image reel features 14 3D photographs of Gander's Didactease model, the emblem uses advanced mathematical symbols to produce the sentence ‘There exists only one definition for everything, everywhere at any one time’”
Produced to coincide with The Library of Babel / In and Out of Place, an exhibition of more than 200 works from the Zabludowicz Collection curated by Anna-Catharina Gebbers as a result of her residency with the collection.
Ryan Gander ’s complex and unfettered conceptual practice is stimulated by queries, investigations or what-ifs, rather than strict rules or limits. Gander is a cultural magpie in the widest sense, polymathically taking popular notions apart only to rebuild them in new ways.
Gander created a hanging model depicting elements of a Didactease emblem in 3D form; the image reel features 14 3D photographs of this model, an image of the emblem itself is shown on the centre of the reel. The Didactease emblem uses advanced mathematical symbols to produce the sentence ‘There exists only one definition for everything, everywhere at any one time’ and is used repeatedly in Ryan Gander’s work.
