“a collaboration between photographer Benedikt Frank and Brazilian artist Alexandre Da Cunha”
Frank's image from his series 'Rio de Janeiro' was produced in the lead up to the 2014 World Cup. The series investigated the city, its people and the landscape.
Following on from Arte Povera and his Latin American predecessors, da Cunha examines the position of his homeland, Brazil, in relation to the West.
In his previous 'Velour Series' (2005-2006), Da Cunha presented tourist beach towels in a variety of styles, each suggesting a different tribe of sun worshipper. Pinned against the gallery walls with the assistance of curtain poles, mop handles and other found and adapted supports the beach towels became flags at rest.
