This series, Motel Nudes, opens up the world laid out in the previous instalment of the Desert Nudes series, and features solely miniature porthole-esque works, echoing the ‘love tokens’ of the Victorian era and the High Renaissance.

In an antidote to the archetypal images of Western machismo which often feature in the cowboy canon, instead Lorena offers depictions of cool, calm, nude women who languor, always alone, across beds, plastic chairs or the gently burnt carpets of desert motels.

Building on previous themes of escapist fantasy, intoxication and wanderlust of far away ever moving landscapes, a predominant message emerges in this series surrounding the potential of taking in a moment alone as a woman.
