add to calendarSim Smith presents Ecstasy, Emily Hunt's second solo exhibition with the gallery.
In this exhibition, Hunt focuses on female artists who practiced magick while remaining deeply devoted to their artistic pursuits. The underlying thread of the exhibition is the search for ecstatic emotional states—whether through spiritual and magical work, dance, intoxication, intense creative experiences, meditation, or sex magic.
This new body of work explores magical partnerships, such as Marjorie Cameron and Jack Parsons, as well as creative solo forces, such as Ithell Colquhoun. At the heart of the exhibition is the dual concept of the artist’s and magician’s Great Work, which specifically describes the moment of union between the self and the divine.
The exhibition showcases intricate ceramics that have become synonymous with Hunt’s practice, following her recent museum exhibition at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney. For the first time, this exhibition also unveils large-scale paintings that Hunt has produced specifically for Ecstasy.
