Artists: Radouan Zeghidour - Alessandro Roma - Dene Leigh

Yamamoto Keiko Rochaix presents a group exhibition featuring the paintings and sculptural works of three artists: Radouan Zeghidour, Alessandro Roma, and Dene Leigh. These artists explore personal memories and collective history, delving into the subtle workings of inner thoughts and perceptions. Their subjects are deeply personal and emotional, revealing private spaces that are both poetic and enigmatic, while also possessing a transcendental quality.

About the exhibition

Radouan Zeghidour's large-scale latex work commands presence in the ground floor gallery. Titled "Noé," it reincarnates an architectural fragment from a monumental industrial structure built in the early twentieth century north of Paris. Presented almost like a casual painting splattered with bold colour strokes, the piece is infused with the actual colours of bricks, as well as physical dust, dirt and all the bits and pieces accumulated over a century, absorbed and transferred to the latex. This material connection transports us to the ancient, collective past, crystallising history and presenting it before our eyes.

Alessandro Roma is a master of his inner workings; his paintings are visual representations of his thoughts, feelings, and dreams, projecting joy and anxiety alongside the intricate shifts in mood through his virtuosity in colour and composition. While predominantly abstract, his works often evoke strong connections to nature, with flora and fauna serving as foundational motifs or shapes reminiscent of landscapes. The small dimensions of the oil, acrylic, and watercolour paintings featured in this exhibition further enhance the intimate experience, bringing Roma's inner thoughts and emotions closer to the viewers

Dene Leigh is an emerging artist who reconstructs the passage of time and history through meticulously crafted paintings, often combining images from photographs and various found materials―both real and fictional. His work "Descendants," created during a profoundly introspective period following a significant loss, offers a personal interpretation of his family history and, by extension, his own identity. The superimposed images―some clear and others obscure―invite viewers to pause, reflect, ask questions, and observe more deeply, as many elements are more hidden than apparent. Ultimately, the painting captivates our attention with the elusive mystery of its imagery, compelling us to engage with its complexities.

Radouan Zeghidour

Zeghidour's practice centres around the ideas of clandestine, mystery, melancholy, legend, ruin, memory and ephemerality. Lives and works in Embrin in the French Alpes. Zeghidour graduated from the Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2016, and selected for Jeune Creation in 2018 and the Salon de Montrouge in 2019, both considered to be important passage for emerging artists active in France. His solo shows include 'Une Androsace, Vénus et ses Berger·es' Les Capucins, Embrin 2024, 'Chronicles of a Scoundrel' 2022, ‘LXXV Chants de Sirènes’ 2019 and ‘Jian’ 2017 at Yamamoto Keiko Rochaix, ‘Evasion’ Kunstlerhaus Sootbörn, Hamburg, 2018 and ‘Hypogea’ at Catinca Tabacaru, New York, 2016. He will be participating in a group show 'Berserk & Pyrrhia, art contemporain et art médiéval' frac Île-de-France from March 2025. Public collections: Fonds d’art contemporain – Paris Collection

Alessandro Roma

Roma studied and graduated from Academia di Brera, Milan. Dene Leigh

Leigh intertwines autobiographical and fictional fragments of history and historical memory in painting, drawing, and sculptural work that share a foundational urge to unearth and preserve the psychic and cultural artifacts of time’s passing. Leigh’s work imagines a physical shape of introspective rumination―one that collects memories and their material embodiments in the external world on a flat indexical collage board of the mind. Studied at Wimbledon College of Art, lives and works in London. Solo shows include The Gallery, London, 2024; 'Ephemeral' 2018 and 'Agnosia', 2016, Baert Gallery in Los Angeles; group shows include Royal Academy of Arts, London; Canterbury Museums, Canterbury; Rosenfeld, London, 2022; Towner, Eastbourne, 2022. Public collection: Canterbury Museums and Galleries The work was created following a commission for an exhibition at The Beaney House of Art & Knowledge, Canterbury, in partnership with The National Portrait Gallery, London.
